Choosing a design school

Bachelor Degrees

Since I was about five years old, I have loved fashion and anything having to do with clothing.  I can remember constantly playing dress up and as soon as I was old enough I was making and designing my own clothes.  So of course when it came time to decide what I wanted to do after high school, I chose to apply to a fashion design school.  I was only going to apply to the fashion school, but my guidance counselor wanted me to have a second choice and she suggested I look into schools that offer similar courses.

I found an art school close by that offered not only traditional art courses, but also courses in clothing design and architecture, which my guidance counselor thought would be a great start in case I didn’t get into the fashion design school right away.

Well, I took her advice and ended up being accepted to both schools!  Even though I have always dreamed of designing my own line of clothing, I want to weigh my decision and make the right one for me. Now I have to decide which school I want to go to, because the idea of the art school has kind of grown on me.

Best of luck with your career! I learned early that it is best to make yourself as marketable as possible. You may find that you like graphic (advertising) design as well as some elements of interior and architectural design. You don’t necessarily have to be an architect or art director to get jobs in these fields.
