Chef Schools Produce More Than Just Chefs

Culinary Arts

Imagine that you were to attend chef school. What would you be after you graduated? Most people will answer that they would expect to be a chef. While it’s true that many graduates of chef schools go on to be top chefs, it’s not true that this is the only job that you can get after graduating from culinary school. There are many different jobs available to people with culinary arts degrees.

Of course, the majority of the jobs do involve working with food. That’s why most people go to culinary school. But they don’t have to be chefs. They could be caterers or specialty restaurant owners. Alternatively, they could be a specific type of chef like a pastry chef. There are a lot of jobs open in this industry.

There are also plenty of people who go to chef school and then go on to do work that’s not quite related to working with food. For example, they may become writers who focus on food writing since that is their area of expertise. You can use your chef school experience to do many different things. You just have to be creative in how you want to use it and self-motivated enough to make it happen.

What You Can Do After Cooking School

Culinary Arts

A lot of students think about attending cooking school. Unfortunately, a lot of those students also end up changing their minds. The main reason for this is that they aren’t certain that they want to spend the rest of their lives working in a restaurant. What these students should know is that there are a lot of things that you can do after cooking school if you decide that restaurant work isn’t right for you.

For example, students who have graduated from a cooking school might want to enter the profession of writing. They can write cookbooks, work as food reviewers for magazines or start their own cooking blog. Having the education will assist them in doing well in this type of work.

Alternatively, students may use their culinary education to find work in food demonstration. They may set up food demos at conventions or do video blogging of food preparation. This would allow them to do cooking for a living without actually having to work in a restaurant.

The important thing for students to realize is that a cooking school education is only a starting point. It’s a great way to get into restaurant work but it can also lead to many other types of jobs. If you enjoy cooking then you shouldn’t dismiss the option of going to cooking school just because you aren’t totally sure that restaurant work is your calling.

Becoming a Pastry Chef

Culinary Arts

I am studying to become a pastry chef and I love it!  It is actually much more stressful than I thought it would be but I am so happy!  My classes are so great!  When I graduated from high school, I was really worried about going to college.  I did well and I made pretty good grades but I just could not image going to school for another four years.  I love my classes at the culinary institute because we actually do things.  It’s hands on and we actually do the techniques while we are learning about them.

I had so many classes in high school that I sat in, bored out of my mind, wondering when on earth I was ever going to use the information.  I never feel that way at my culinary school.  I know that I will use everything that we learn and practice.  There were different culinary arts degrees that I could choose from.  I definitely made the right choice with the pastry arts program.  It is perfect for me!  I am so excited to graduate and start working.  I have even had some jobs already.  I’ve done some baking for a few weddings and showers.  Maybe I can even do something like that full time after I graduate.
