The fall semester is about to begin. You’re leaving home and heading to your college campus. What are you going to do with all of the stuff that you have at home? You probably want to keep it but don’t want to bring it with you to college.
Some of your choices for storing your stuff when you go to college include:
- Leave it with Mom and Dad. A lot of kids just leave their stuff in their old room at home. Mom and Dad are usually fine with keeping it for you. They may ask that you box it up and put it in storage. Make sure you know if this is what they want in advance since you probably don’t want them packing it for you after you leave.
- Leave it with another family member or friend. If you can’t leave your things with Mom and Dad then maybe your grandma or your best friend will let you store some stuff. There are risks to this since you never know whether or not people will care properly for your things but it’s definitely an option.
- Get a self storage unit. This can be expensive. Do some comparison shopping to see whether it’s cheaper to store your things near your parents’ house or near your campus. You may find that there’s a big difference in price between the Avondale storage unit near them and the Allen storage unit near school.
Of course, you could always just take what you really need with you to school and sell off the rest.
As college students, we all have one thing in common, no matter what we are studying: We all have a lot of stress on us. That’s why it’s important to find some way to take a break from schoolwork and destress.
College students find a variety of ways to destress. The most common way is probably partying — it’s hard to be in college and NOT party, particularly if you live in the dorms. Just as long as you make sure you keep your partying to a safe level, it can actually work wonders for your stress levels to hang out with friends and forget your troubles for a while.
Sports and extracurricular activities are another way that college students deal with stress. Golf is a popular pastime for college students, and the right golf training might even help you get a golf scholarship to an academy of golf, making your hobby one that pays for itself!
A lot of college students also have online hobbies that provide them with an outlet from the stress they experience in their lives. For instance, some students really enjoy online gaming, while others spend a lot of time socializing via social media.
Whatever your method of destressing, what’s important is that you have an outlet, so that you can relax and actually enjoy the experience of being in college!
What do you use for your diploma display? Do you just have your diploma hanging on the wall in a cheap frame or did you decide to go all out and buy an expensive frame. If you are someone that likes to show off your accomplishments, hopefully you decided to buy a high quality frame that will last for many years.Did you also buy a graduation picture frame to show off the picture of the big day? Of course, if you are like most people, you probably just put the picture inside of a scrapbook or in a photo album. Personally, I don’t even know what I did with my graduation photo that the school took. The other photos are actually still in the photo sleeve from the drug store I had them developed at.
My diploma is also still in its original holder. The same applies for my high school diploma. Actually, I don’t remember my high school graduation that well. I remember going and sitting, and waiting to get the diploma, but that is about it. It really wasn’t that big of a deal to me.I remember almost everything about my college graduation. I actually wanted to be there. Of course, maybe I should go about showing off the diploma sometime to show that I did actually appreciate college.
A long time ago, I went to college. I had the opportunity to study engineering, and learned quite a bit. As time went on, I found that I needed to branch out into something new. I’ve gone back to school to become an architect. One of the big things they’ve been pushing at school is usgbc leed. They keep telling us that it is important that we look into this because it is the wave of the future. Luckily, they also gave us some leed classes to take to really get a firm understanding of LEED.
There are courses on designing new structures, and some on converting current structures to leed existing buildings. I’m not entirely sure I understand everything just yet, but I believe my advisors know what they are doing and can help make sure that I am making a good career move. I mean, my engineering advisors weren’t this good so that has to say something. It’s hard to believe that it has been almost ten years since I’ve graduated. I’m sure glad that my first undergrad is over because it was long and a bit arduous. I took a lot from it though, so I think things will be okay.
Traditionally, everyone knew they were supposed to sock away 10 to 20 percent of their income, part of which went into college savings for the kids. Some teens even worked and contributed to their own college savings accounts, but in general it was expected that middle class families would pay for their kids’ college tuition costs.
It’s a very different picture these days. Most middle class families are strapped tighter than ever, and don’t have any extra to spare for their kids’ college funds. Many teens find out when they graduate from high school that neither they nor their parents have any savings to spend on college — and since college is a pretty hefty expense, these kids typically can’t attend, at least not without incurring ridiculous amounts of debt in student loans before they are even out in the real world.
Sometimes a college student can get some “free money” from sources such as scholarships and grants. Some students even manage to cover quite a bit of their tuition this way. However, it takes a lot of research, planning, and applying in order for this to happen.
In general, you should assume that most of the cost of college will be your responsibility to come up with, and set out to decrease the cost of college as much as possible. You can easily do this if you know about what tax breaks, financial aid, and other things you can use to your advantage, or if you consult an expert who can advise you in these things. Just because your parents can’t afford to send you to college doesn’t mean you can’t go!
